Spring Trends Update

Alapage at Seven for All Mankind’s booth in NYC

I always return from our New York Shows excited and a bit exhausted. Five shows in three long days can be overwhelming, but nothing beats the anticipation of awaiting the great “finds” we manage to uncover during our trips!

This trip I ordered spring jewelry and accessories and late spring/early summer denim and sportswear. The picture above is of us writing our April and May orders with our sales rep. Jill at Seven For All Mankind.

Denim trends for Spring will include medium and dark clean washes in lighter weight denim with very little pocket embellishments. Think “soft and flowy”. Tried and true styles and slightly higher rises seem to be what our customers want so we will be bringing in lots of new washes of our best-selling styles from all of our denim brands.

For sportswear, two strong color palettes have emerged for Spring. We are loving the soft earth-tone palette of whites, taupes and soft yellows, greens and browns in flowy tops, some with crocheted trim. Pair these tops with lightweight denim, flat clean sandals, and bold gold earrings and jewelry. “Clean Boho-Chic” might describe this look best. Look for these soft styles and colors in our store this Spring by Velvet, Ella Moss, Michael Stars, and Language LA.

The second color palette is a bolder statement of strong desert-like colors such as bright teal, orange, and hot pink. Shaped longer tops and shorter sweaters in these bold colors over dark lightweight denim with fun metallic sandals make this a hot new look for spring and summer. Complete this look with jewelry in layers of silver, gold, or brightly colored wooden beads or shells. A little more daring? Layer lots of these bold colors together and wrap a brightly patterned skinny scarf around your neck. Be sure to look for this color pallette in a variety of styles from 525, Free People, Michael Stars, Splendid and Scrapbook this Spring.

For dressier looks, in additon to these palletes, black and white prints are still going forward. Be sure to check out our dressier styles from Kensie, Hale Bob, Matty M, Weston Wear and Casting.

Watch for more highlights in our “Trend Watch” category as our Spring deliveries arrive!

New York…Here We come!

Tomorrow we head to New York to continue our Spring and Summer buying.  Christine and Judy (my managers) will join me very early Monday morning for our drive into the city.  Most of our first day will be spent at an accessories show  at the Javits Center.  We will be buying lots of great spring/summer jewelry and accessories at this show.  We will even begin some of our early fall buying at Brighton!  After a full day there, we will head to a smaller clothing show to take advantage of their evening hours.  We will finish there and head to dinner at one of our favorite “haunts” sometime around 8 or 9.

The next two days we will head to the exciting contemporary market where we will have a chance to really see what is happening in the fashion world and choose the directions we will focus on for late spring and summer.  We have many appointments with our denim companies such as Paige, Seven, Citizens, AG, Joe’s and True Religion and will also see sportswear lines like Splendid, Michael Stars, Velvet and Language LA.

I love the energy and excitement of these shows and after three ”beautifully exhausting” days of buying, we will return to New Hampshire with  our focus and plans for late spring and summer…and maybe even a little Fall!

Be sure to watch for photos and a trend report from this adventure New York!
